I attended FEConf 2022 not as an attendee, but as staff. After failing to secure a ticket through Naver's registration system, I volunteered as event staff and was selected.
Morning of the Event Day
The conference was held at Lotte World Tower. I arrived 30 minutes early to help with registration and distributed name tags to all attendees. I met Han Jaeyeop from Toss, and it was exciting to meet someone in person whom I knew through their content.
Sponsor Booths
Companies like Ohouse, Banksalad, Ably, Yanolja, Toss, FastCampus, Superb AI, and Yogiyo operated booths. "Thoughtful companies provided eco bags and shopping bags," making it convenient to collect merchandise and participate in booth activities.
Valuable Sessions
Design System Beyond Form - Lee Soyoung (FLEX)
She emphasized that "design systems become bottlenecks when expectations and responsibilities are unclear." FLEX's design system evolved through three principles: functionality independent from appearance, guaranteed basic behavior, and minimal constraints.
Monorepo Management - Oh Changyoung (Toss)
Monorepo means "well-defined relationships between multiple independent projects within a single repository." Toss open-sourced their @toss/slash library.
ReScript - Jung Miryang (Greenlabs)
Advantages included elimination of style debates and readable code through pipe operators, while disadvantages included binding complexity and a limited community.
PSD Parser Library - Lee Donghyun & Kang Yehyeong (Naver Webtoon)
They created an efficient library that achieved "approximately 10x size reduction and 7x speed improvement." They applied WebAssembly optimization and demonstrated how CS fundamentals enhance front-end problem-solving capabilities.
Import Statements - Park Seojin (Toss)
He distinguished between CommonJS and ECMAScript Modules, explaining that ESM enables static analysis while CommonJS requires file-level understanding. Node.js ESM adoption requires explicit file extensions.
Wrapping Up FEConf 2022
I was grateful for the opportunity to contribute as staff, meet outstanding developers, and participate in the tech community. I aim to eventually present at such conferences myself and will continue building my professional network.
